Young Adult Literature

Young Adult Literature Resource

Unfortunately, less and less children are reading in today's world. With the explosion in technology and all of its applications, adolescents are seeing no reason to sit down and read. As English teachers, it is our responsibility to foster a love of reading and not to bore students to tears with books they have no interest in. The books we are often required to teach are focused around characters, themes, and time periods that have no relation to student's lives. We need to find a way to work with those required texts while simultaneously promoting interest in reading.

Young Adult (YA) Literature is one of the best ways to change the face of the English classroom and get adolescents excited about reading and this site is designed to introduce those unfamiliar to the wide array of YA literature around the world. Even if you are very familiar with YA lit, it is our hope that this site will help find additional texts you otherwise might not be exposed to.

We have compiled what we believe to be an exhaustive and comprehensive collection of the finest books appropriate for students aged 13-18 (Grades 7-12). In addition, this site will show links to canonical texts to help teachers link the classics with books that are more relevant to student's wants and needs. Whether you are looking to find a proper replacement for a classic text, to flesh out bookclubs around a classic text, or turn students on through independent reading, this site will hopefully lead you right to the perfect book(s).

All in all, this site is designed to help teachers easily FIND books to integrate into the classroom.

Although we believe our collection to be comprehensive and exhaustive, we acknowledge that we likely either missed or excluded appropriate books, or included inappropriate books for the collection. For example, we know that our poetry, short story, and nonfiction sections could really benefit from your input. With this in mind, we have set up a page where you can submit any questions, concerns, or suggestions you might have to make this site the best possible resource it can be.
